Drawing on ethnography, folklore, history and archaeology, it traces the influence of ancient Greek customs and rituals on popular beliefs of today, creating an amalgam of pagan and Christian ritual practices. The book aims to contribute to existing scholarly research on the influence of ancient Greek religion on contemporary folk events, while mapping local variations in Greece.
